The Calgary Fire Department reported that a fire caused damage to 10 buildings and four garages in the southeast of Calgary.
Calgary Fire reported that Calgary Fire destroyed three garages, while another sustained structural damage. Three homes, as well as seven other structures, suffered damage to their windows, siding and structurally.
Jamie Hannaford is the qualified Calgary Fire district chief. He called it “a big garage fire for sure.”
Hannaford says that because the fire happened at night, it wasn’t noticed immediately.
The garages around the house were also extended because we knew that they would take time to construct.
Fire in the 200 Block Prestwick Heights S.E. Calgary Fire reported that the fire was first discovered around 3:30 am on Monday.
Ronnie Boquiz said that the children were the ones who saw the firefighters. They went in and yelled “There is a fire inside the garage!”
Calgary Fire reported that it took an hour for the fire to be brought under control.
There were no injuries reported and everyone in the home was evacuated.
You know you just need to (get) control of the situation. Don’t panic,” Boquiz said.
Calgary Fire confirmed that nine people, including one cat, were evacuated. Most of the residents will be allowed to return home on Monday, except for two houses in the center that are “severely” damaged.
Calgary Fire continues to investigate the cause of the fire and calculate the damage.
