Stephanie Conant, her three kids and their parents will be spending the holidays in a 3-bedroom apartment.

Around 10 am on Monday morning, Stephanie Conant from Brunswick was searching for batteries in her house when she heard an audible “crack”.

Conant said that she and her children had lost electricity. She owns a trailer in Bay Bridge Estates. “I was cleaning the house and then sat for a moment, when ‘bang’ — literally, the tree fell just above my head. I was able to jump up and run out the door.

She said, “My children are in school.” They didn’t suffer any of it.”

Conant and his family are displaced to stay with Jennifer’s three children, who is Conant’s sister. This was a big change for them just before Christmas.

Conant, who does not have insurance because the premiums for her old mobile are exorbitant, described the damages as extensive. The Federal Emergency Management Agency was contacted to inquire about financial assistance for repairs. She is still waiting to hear from them.

In an interview with her on Thursday, she stated that “one of the branches literally was stuck inside the roof.” The ceiling is cracked.

The branch is still stuck in the roof. A friend removed the tree from the building. Conant says she recently heard of a Bay Bridge list that residents can sign to ask for trees around their home to be removed. She wishes she knew about this sooner.

Andrew Fells said that the chief operating officer for Legacy Communities which owns Bay Bridge was on site throughout storm. Bottled water had been delivered to Bay Bridge until electricity and water could be restored. This happened today.

He added that “Plans have been made to cut any trees damaged and to remove the fallen branches from our property.”

Legacy Communities is based out of Florida. It owns 55 RV and mobile home parks.

Conant’s home was among the thousands in Maine that were damaged by water and wind during Monday’s storm. Over 130,000 Mainers were without electricity and 66 road closures remained in place as of Thursday morning.

She said that the living arrangements with her sister and family were “really difficult”. You feel as if you are invading another person’s personal space. And there’s not much space. It’s hard to put another family into that small space. “We’re working hard to make this work, and it’s going well. But it’s definitely trying.

Jennifer said that her apartment had three bedrooms. She explained that the children were split into two of the rooms. Stephanie slept in the third room, and Jennifer and her boyfriend shared the couch.

Jennifer explained, “We moved the tree because there are six kids in our living room.” We were thinking, “How can we fit this in? Because it is going to be an insane holiday,” Jennifer said.

Jennifer said that the Brunswick School System has reached out and offered to assist the family during Christmas.

“People have been wonderful,” Stephanie said. Stephanie said that the neighbors’ response made her feel “loved”. My neighbors all flew in and took care of whatever was needed. The neighbors were there, hands-on. They jumped right in. You know, it’s incredible the amount of support that came from nowhere. “Great people.”

She added, “We were lucky.” If things had been different, the result may have looked different. I am very thankful to everyone for their support.
