Hayles Ford Fiesta was the scene of an argument, during which one person picked up a wrench. A baseball bat and an engine that was still hot were found underneath the passenger’s seat.
He refused to provide a breath test to the officers before his lawyer arrived, even though he admitted that he owned the item. The officer was not involved in the dispute, nor did he drive the vehicle.
The court was told that he had no intention of touching the bat and he did not drink any alcohol. The court heard that he pleaded guilty for failing to produce a specimen as well as possessing an offensive weapons.
Hayles received a letter from District Judge Leo Pyle telling him that he was not allowed to carry baseball bats in his bag or car, nor could he request that the police conduct a breath test under any conditions.
Hayles was also punished with a 12 month community order, 120 unpaid hours, a 3-year driving ban and PS114 in victim surcharges and PS85 in prosecution costs.
