National Weather Service reports that a tornado hit Johnston, Scituate, and North Providence early Friday morning.

Joe Polisena Jr., the mayor of Johnston said he thought a tornado had touched down at Greenville Avenue and Interstate 295.

George Viau, a witness said: “I’m not sure if he bounced of the guardrail.” He just spun and came up.”

He captured a video while driving along I-295 near Johnston.

I looked up and wondered, “Is it really happening?” “Is this really happening?” Viau recalled.

The incident was responded to by a Johnston Fire Department team. A local hospital treated the back and neck injuries of the driver.

Mark Pappas, Director of the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency said that a lot of damage had been caused. “Trees, wires, and houses were damaged.

National Weather Service reports that crews began moving debris this morning in Scituate after a storm touched down.

Richard O’Neill, Jr., was home at the time.

Richard O’Neill Jr. stated that our cell phones sent us an alert. We went into the basemant.

He described panic moments at his home, Byron Randall Road.

O’Neill stated that the falling trees caused chaos, but nobody was injured. It’s unbelievable.

Melissa Carden is the spokesperson for Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency. According to her, they received reports mainly of trees downed and powerlines. No injuries were reported.

North Providence, Cumberland and Providence suffered less damages than Johnston, Scituate, or Cumberland.

Devin O’Leary claimed that it was a hellish 30 seconds. The house started shaking all of a suddenly. My mother had been watching my three sons while I was at work. We were able get everyone in the basement.

Meryl Brousseau, a resident of Scituate said: “As soon as I went outside I could see massive destruction to trees everywhere.” My neighbor’s chicken coop was destroyed and her roof completely blown away. “It was a very frightening experience.”

Rhode Island Energy announced that at the peak of the storms over 7,000 clients had been left without power.
