The Elks Golf Course, located in Dowagiac, has suffered damage worth tens of thousands.
People running the course claim that someone broke in to a few sheds, poured chemicals all over and spray-painted the equipment.
It was late in the night when vandalism took place.
The class has been cleaning up after the accident for more than a month.
The sheds were damaged by someone who used the equipment and materials of the golf course to gain access.
The process is complicated by the vandals’ actions and their methods.
The alarms were on every door. The animals entered the building through the wall after tearing a part of the rear wall. We didn’t install motion sensors because animals kept coming in. “They broke into the cabinet and took all of the fertilizers, chemicals and fungicides, then poured them all in the gas and sprayed it on everyone,” Ray Klomes said, Manager/Treasurer at The Dowagiac Elks.
There are chemical residues everywhere and the equipment has been ruined.

There are also offensive symbols and phrases taped on the wall.
The electrical panel was also painted by the alleged vandals. This is something the course also hopes to change.
Elks expect between $25,000 to $30,000 of damages.
The money could have been used better.
Elks members raise money throughout the year to support causes like Feed the Hungry, Cancer Services and more.
Someone would defame a volunteer-run non-profit.
Klomes was surprised.
Elks invite anyone with information to contact them. Justice can then be served.
Since the vandalism, which occurred over a week prior, the community has supported the nonprofit.
The community is fantastic. The golfers are still out there. “They don’t care if the grass is longer or shorter than they like,” Klomes says.
