Since more than nine-months, a Toledo woman doesn’t have a roof that works. Her Allstate homeowners insurance, she says, isn’t helping.
There’s no floor in my room. Vale Thomas stated, “There’s no flooring.” I just want to get my life back.
A storm in March ripped the shingles off a portion of her roof. An Allstate representative inspected the damages a few days after.
As she waited to hear from the company, her roof started leaking, and then gave way.
Thomas revealed, “I heard an ‘boosh’ and I saw the roof fall in.”
Thomas got a letter on 15 May from Allstate saying they “could not find any physical damage to the roof” and that there would be no payment made in this area.
Thomas tried again.
Thomas stated, “I have had five agents and each one has told me they are going to help. But they never did.”
Mold is growing while she waits for Allstate. She was hospitalized a few weeks ago.
Thomas stated, “I could not breathe during the night.” When I was at the hospital, the doctors found black mold on my lungs.
Damage now extends to two floors.
Thomas, standing in Thomas’ bedroom, said: “My office is downstairs directly below here.” Thomas said, “The water goes straight to my office. My ceiling is black.”
Thomas asked for assistance from the I-TEAM. Allstate was able to provide us with the answers we needed.
Thomas sent a representative of Allstate the specifics about his situation. They responded by saying: “We will support our customer in their claim, and we’ll resolve it according their policy.”
Thomas is still waiting and her house has suffered more damages.
Thomas said, “They told me I was supposed to be safe in their hands but I didn’t really feel that way.”
