High winds caused a mess on Monday in Seacoast. A portion of the roof of an apartment complex was torn off by high winds.
The wind ripped off the C Street building’s roof and overhang. Crews continued to stabilize the building as winds weakened a little since Monday’s peak.
The high wind warning for Strafford County, and the coastal Rockingham County will remain in place until Tuesday morning at 1 am.
A coastal flood alert has been lifted for the coast.
Around the high tide of 3:16, crews kept an eye out for flooding. Officials didn’t expect any flooding because it wasn’t an astronomical tide. However, officials did anticipate some flooding in low-lying, flood-prone areas.
Flooding did not cause any road closures or evacuations.
Michael McMahon, the Fire Chief said that they had responded to many trees and powerlines falling throughout the day. However, the most serious issue was the damage in the apartment complex.
Dorothy Hartnett was one of seven people who were forced to leave their homes because the roof problems. She worked from home. She heard loud banging, and said that it was something from a film.
“It’s funny. Hartnett: “I sent my friends a video saying, ‘I’m like the Wizard of Oz, with the house flying off’, and sure enough, it happens.” Thank God no one was hurt.
She said that fortunately, there were no damages to her apartment. She will stay with her family on Monday night.
McMahon stated that the American Red Cross works with all people who have been displaced to help them find housing.
